What Do You Actually Learn on an Educational Tour?

Most educational tours in Cusco take you to a ruin and someone talks at you for 45 minutes. Ours is different. You show up, you put on an apron, and you start learning by doing. We teach you the complete bean-to-bar process — from raw cacao to finished chocolate — and you do every step yourself.

Our educational tours cover the history of cacao in Peru, how Quillabamba valley farmers harvest and ferment the beans, what happens during roasting and conching, and why tempering is the trickiest part. By the end, you know more about chocolate then most people who eat it every day.

A teacher from a school in Wanchaq brought her class of 15 year olds last winter. She said it was the first educational tour where none of her students looked at there phones. Thats because they were to busy cracking cacao shells and licking chocolate off spoons.

For Schools, Groups, and Curious Travelers

Educational tours at our workshop work for any group size. We've hosted school trips from local Cusco schools, university groups studying agriculture, tour groups from travel agencies, and solo travelers who just love learning new things. We adjust the depth of information based on who's in the room.

For school groups, we include extra info about sustainable farming and fair-trade practices. For adult travelers, we go deeper into fermentation science and flavor profiles. Either way, our educational tours give you real knowledge — not just a nice photo op.

Located in the Heart of Cusco

Our workshop sits in San Blas, right next to the oldest church in Cusco. Its a 5-minute walk from the Plaza de Armas and an easy stop between Sacsayhuaman and the San Pedro Market. If your planning educational tours around the historic center, we fit right into the schedule.

Walk down Cuesta San Blas after your tour and you'll pass some of the best artisan workshops in Cusco. Pottery, weaving, jewelry — San Blas is the creative neighborhood, and our chocolate workshop is part of that tradition.
